Recalculating fuel cost for H2O

From: Bruce Sent: May 17, 2022

Rounded up to $200.00 due at start of ride.

My prior estimate of $4/gal was when gas was $3.70/gal and going down. That has not lasted. While refiguring at $4.50 gal I also noticed I'd omitted the return to Hendersonville mileage from that calculation. So refiguring with the added miles and increased cost per gallon results in $194.00 per person fuel cost for the tour. Rounding to $200.00. I'm relatively sure this will assure Ross gets covered, unless gasoline does go to $5/gal.

Wiggins to Hendersonville =500 miles x2 =1,000 miles
Tour miles est 753 doubled for van backtracking and general running around = 1506 miles
Savannah to Hendersonville =516 miles
Total miles driven  3,022 miles   3022 miles/14 mpg = 216 gallons of gas  216 x $4.50/gal = $972.00  $972/5 people = $972 per person.
Rounded up to $200.00.

Tom, This is my understanding of Ross' van capacity, it may save him a bit of re-typing.  He's already making arrangements to ensure his van is fitted out to accommodate the maximum numbers mentioned.

Bob

With three people using the bench seat (and there are 3 seat belts on the seat), and the 2 captain seats its a 5 passenger van, driver plus 4.

I do have another bench seat that I can put in the van that has 2 seat belts. I could put a bike rack on the front of the van to haul the additional bikes but this seat might hamper luggage space during the ride.. This could be done and I could haul 6 people back to Hendersonville

ATLANTA  (We chose not to ride on Atlanta)
We had several routes and comments relative to travel around Atlanta.  They are collected here for reference.

Bob's Revised route: Smyrna to Lithonovia (copy)

I picked up Bob’s southern route because it is OSM Bike Trails 35 and 22 (Bruce also showed favoritism).  The northern route is on no OSM Bike Trails (a negative).  We’re near Stone Mountain and on a tour (Also its a short ride day.  Time to tour).  I would like to see SM and visit the Park.  Here is info about the Stone Mt Trail

From: David Shumaker Sent: June 24, 2020

From 1979 to 1986 we lived 3 miles from Stone Mountain Park and visited it scores of times. I recommend that we visit it and even ride around it on Robert Lee Blvd. We should also take the time to walk up the mountain. It will take an hour plus one way. (There also is a cable car but that is too simple.) For years they had a spectacular light show each evening on the face of the monument. You could sit on the grass and enjoy it. However, it is definitely better to visit during the week and before summer season to avoid insane crowds. Now that is 35 years ago. I can tap my kids for contacts in Atlanta now to get a better feel of the current park activities.

Here is a 2015 Ride with GPS route posted from Decatur to Stone Mountain.

I've added it to the Collection so please let me know if you have any more refinements.
I'll check it out but doubt that I'll have any quibbles. Peds and bikes are admitted to SMP free at South Woods Gate on James B Rivers Memorial Drive.

I have a currently unanswered query as to whether this also applies to the Stone Mountain Trail access, past the visitors centre on Main St. I'd be inclined just to use it anyway.
